How To Choose Your Lipstick
A woman doesn't ask for much, just a lipstick that doesn't require hourly retouching and makes her lips look creaseless. It isn't an impossible dream, though choosing the right lipstick has a few steps. From the colour to its texture, everything plays an important role. Don't get blinded by big brands, instead pick something that makes you happy and look good.
Undertone There are two types of skin undertones, which are basically defined by the colour of the veins on your wrist. If your veins are blue then you most probably have a cool undertone, which isn't very popular among Indian skins. Most Indian skins either have a warm undertone, with green-ish veins or neutral, which is a mix of cold and warm undertones. Identifying your undertone will give you a clear idea of which colours would and wouldn't suit you. For example, pinks look better on cold and neutral undertones and reds and browns look better on warm undertones.
Skin colour Ideally your lipstick should be two shades darker than your natural lip colour. Especially in the shades of red and pink. If you have a fair complexion then try pastel pink or even bright red, neons would look good on you. And if you have wheatish or darker complexion then go for deep reds and browns, even dark shades of pink would do wonders, brightening up your face immediately.
Duration and Texture Sometimes we step into a store and immediately fall in love with a specific colour, but you need to make sure the lipstick last for at least 4-5 hours. Most brands promise you long lasting lipsticks but your lip shade and skin texture plays an important role and is different for everybody. So it's best to try on the lipstick before you buy it, keep it on and see how long it lasts. Also keep in mind the texture of your lipstick, it shouldn't highlight the cracks on your lips and settle into them.
Regular Use Requirements Bobbi Brown once said, If I had to teach someone just one thing about lip colour it would be this: Find a lipstick that looks good on your face when you are wearing absolutely no makeup. Pick a neutral shade that will go with all your clothes. You don't need to match your lipsticks every time you go out. Also, if you're the kind who has emergency social gatherings or meetings that come up, then a neutral base lipstick in your handbag will help you out.
Hair colour Your hair colour plays a role, it could make your lip shade look tacky and vice versa. Since most Indians have either black or brown hair, there isn't much difference. However, deep shades look better on people with black hair. And brighter shades look good on people with brown hair. For Indian hair though, red, brown and orange based colours look the best.
