Celebrity Wedding - Kalyani and Rohit!

Celebrity Wedding - Kalyani and Rohit!

This cherubic face that mesmerised audiences with her sparkling and lively performances is all grown up now.... and married! It was great interacting with her. She is the same bubbly person as we see her on screen. Very happy to feature the wedding of Kalyani and Rohit :)  Ours is an arranged marriage. We spoke to each other over phone and somewhere down the line, both of us felt we were made for each other! I can say, we fell in love over phone itself! While we started talking over phone from April 10, 2013, it was only on June 2nd, Rohit and his parents visited us for the girl- seeing ceremony. But by that time, we had already decided to get married. The initial hiccups like the matching of horoscopes was fine and everything seemed to fall in place! Perhaps it was destined that way!

We decided on the Engagement and the Wedding dates, August 18 and December 12 respectively. He was in Mumbai doing his super speciality in Medicine, and I was in Chennai. But we made it a point to meet at least once every month. I am still dumb-struck when I think of how he gave me a love letter written so beautifully! Just amazed at his thoughtfulness and I am going to treasure it for life! Such a romantic gesture!  I was struck with wonder when he presented a diamond nose ring and ear ring on the morning of the Engagement. I still wonder how he had the time to do all that! He went on his own and selected it personally! For the Engagement, I chose a pink saree with stone work from Manmandir.  After the Engagement, we had almost six months to plan for the wedding. Both of us wanted to be quite simple without a lot of frills! He would send pictures and we would discuss and take decisions. Wedding Venue The wedding took place in Mahalingapuram Iyappan Temple. I selected a cream coloured saree with a pinkish blouse. The jewellery was traditional and it was a Goddess Mahalakshmi set. I wore Kasu Malai and a big Jhumka. The best thing about a Malayalee wedding is that it gets over in just 5 minutes! After the wedding, we had a reception at Le Meredian. It was basically organised to seek the blessings of elders.  Saree: Rohit was keen that I wear a red saree for the reception. I immediately thought of Tulsi Silks, asked for all the red sarees that were available and chose one in five minutes! As simple as that! Jewellery My personal jeweller is Mahalakshmi Gold House in Besant Nagar. I find them to be very lucky for me. His name is Kishore and he beautifully crafts the design that is in my mind. My mom is very artistic and my wedding jewellery is in fact my mom’s design. Uncut diamonds, with cream pearl and ruby. Mom actually drew what she wanted right from the earings, to nethi chutti, two sets of chains and odiyanam and bangles. We gave the order in June and it took almost five and a half months for the jewels to get ready.

Designer My designer is Sylvia from Diva House. She is extremely good and comes up with amazing ideas. There was a lot of work on my blouse and stone work was done on the border of the saree as well. While my hair-do was done by Gopi, I did my own makeup. I have always Photography was taken care of by Neha and video by Vijay TV people.  Decorator Reception was at Le Meredian and for that we had Mullai poo design taken care of by the Le Meredian people themselves. Catering Catering was also taken care of by Le Merdian. They had to bring a caterer from Cochin to prepare traditional Kerala food. It was a proper Kerala Vegetarian food – Sadya, Yela Sappaddu.  Invitation My dad and I went to Menaka Cards to check out designs. Our eyes fell on a maroon card that opened like a door and at that very instant, we decided that we would finalise that card! So quick a decision. Memorable moments My husband Rohit tied the Thali so tightly, that I wore it like a choke for three days! Just unforgettable!  Exercise I did not go for any workouts or the yoga. I remained a vegetarian for forty five days before the wedding! Honeymoon The night after the wedding, we went to Fisherman’s Cove for two days. Later in December, we went to Barcelona and Madrid in Spain for 10 days and had a whale of a time!  Advice to brides to be Chill out and just be happy and enjoy every bit of the day.  Being nervous and not smiling only spoils all the fun. More importantly, the bride and the groom and their family should be happy and cheerful.  In fact, I was happy and relaxed and we did not have any stress and tension on the wedding day!
